70 Years of Airborne Forces
To coincide with public events throughout the year the latest CD by The Band of the Parachute Regiment will be launched at a ‘Beating Retreat’ Ceremony which is being held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on the 24th of June.
The recording pays tribute to all the regiments which have been part of the 16th Brigade which were initially formed in 1940 when the then Prime Minister Winston Churchill, anxious to get back into mainland Europe, sent a note to the War Office asking that a corps of at least 5,000 parachutists be raised. The current 16 Air Assault Brigade numbers over 7,500 and is always regarded as being in the vanguard of operations.
The 24 tracks on this CD features music well established with the regiments involved and includes the pipes and drums of Scottish and Irish contingents.
