70 Years of the NYBBGB

We have spent the weekend celebrating 70 years of the NYBBGB (The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain). The Band was established in 1952, is now a registered charity that currently runs two brass bands – the Children’s Band and the Youth Band. The recording took place in the beautiful surroundings of Repton School in Derbyshire where we recorded the Children’s Band on Saturday followed by the Youth Band on Sunday.

The conducting duties were carried out by Dr Robert Childs, the organisation’s Director of Artistic Planning and Captain Sam Hairsine, a Director of Music in the Royal Marines Band Service.

The music features an eclectic mix of original items arranged by the Band’s founder, Dr Denis Wright through to modern compositions by Lucy Pankhurst. They will feature in a CD, “Celebration”, which will be available before Christmas.

You can learn more about the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain by visiting their website or their Facebook page where you can view some fine video content of the weekend’s event.
